What can we tell from the growth of the shampoo bar market?

Have you experimented with swapping your plastic bottle of liquid shampoo for a more Earth-friendly product yet? If not, is it time you did?

A rapidly growing trend

The shampoo bar market is growing fast. Shampoo bars are a solid form of shampoo that look much like rounded bars of soap. Once wet, they lather up just as liquid shampoo does. They cater to a wide variety of hair types and colors, just as bottled shampoos do.

According to Dataintelo, the global shampoo bar market is projected to grow from a value of USD 11 million in 2019 to USD 18.6 million in 2026. The anticipated compound annual growth rate of 7.6% is attributed to a range of factors, from increasing interest in organic products to concern for the environment.

Growing awareness

An increasing number of consumers are looking to reduce their use of chemical-based personal care products. Shampoo bars are one beneficiary of this trend, with their simple, natural ingredients delivering fresh scents and healthy hair.

The shampoo bar market is evolving too, as more and more consumers experiment with swapping liquid shampoos for solid. This is providing shoppers with greater choice and more specialized products, which in turn is fueling even more market growth.

Saving the planet

And then there’s the planet factor. Growing distaste for single use plastics, due to their negative environmental impact, is leading consumers to seek out beauty products that don’t cost the Earth. This has provided a major growth opportunity for shampoo (and conditioner) bars, in their plastic-free, easily recyclable/compostable little cardboard boxes.

But that’s not to say that everyone is convinced. According to a recent survey by All Things Hair, the price of achieving a more sustainable haircare routines is flagged up as the number one concern that’s holding consumers back. 28.75% of respondents stated this was their top reason for not putting the planet first when it came to their haircare. Almost as large a reason was a reluctance on consumers’ part to sacrifice their established favorite products. Others reported that they didn’t feel that switching to a more sustainable routine would make a difference.

Achieving beautiful hair, naturally

For those who do care about the planet and want to do their bit and reduce their use of plastics, shampoo bars offer an effective way to do so. Switching to solid shampoo also brings with it the delight of experimenting with a whole new range of products. Whether your hair is oily, dry, damaged, dyed or anything else, there are shampoo bars just waiting to deliver the perfect wash! And if you suffer with dandruff or are concerned about hair loss, there’s no need to worry – there are shampoo bars designed to address these issues and more.

Making the switch is simplicity itself. Back in the early days of shampoo bars, there was much talk of needing to get your hair used to a new kind of washing. However, the market has come a long way since then. Now switching to solid shampoo is no different than swapping to a different liquid brand. So what’s stopping you?
